GATEWAY
TO THE OUTBACK
Welcome to Mitchell Queensland, the capital of Kenniff country and gateway to the outback. Sir Thomas Mitchell first visited our area in 1846, where he camped on and named the Maranoa River during an expedition to find an overland route from Sydney to the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The Mitchell Queensland district has a bounty of unique sights for you to enjoy. If you're staying for a night or staying for a week with us there are a number of options available for you to sample our community and our way of life. If you're looking for adventure, fun, or just to relax, we have something to offer you.
Why not take the opportunity to experience the rugged splendour of the Mt.Moffatt National Park, relax in the unique ambience of the Great Artesian Spa or visit any number of attractions within our area.
